How much is the Bible a part of your life? As Catholic's we're nowhere near as close to the Bible as our Protestant friends. They take the book and make it close to their hearts. I doubt you would find a dusty Bible on the shelf in the house of a devout Protestant.
They have that part of their faith right. We need to be more like them in turning to the book God gave us. Sure, we get the Bible in it's entirety if we go to daily mass everyday for 3 years. But how many of us can say we do that?
As Christians we believe Jesus is the Word of God made flesh. Jesus is begotten of God as his proof of his love for us, yes, but more than that, he is a living example of the Bible. Jesus is the only sinless person to have ever lived.
If we want to go to Heaven, we need to try to live as Jesus did. They say mimicry is the sincerest form of flattery. By trying to live a Christ-like life, we will be an embodiment of love to those around us. This is because God is love.
So if we want to get to know Jesus better, we need to get to know our bibles better.
The Bible is truly a book inspired by God, and about God. No single human mind could have created the Bible. According to some scholars there are thousands of cross references within the entirety of the Bible. God gave us both this book and His son so that we might believe and live a life of love.

The book is of our history as Christians, and before that, a history of the Jewish people. The first portion of the Old Testament actually contains the Jewish Torah. The Gospels are the good news of Jesus Christ. Then we get the message from the Apostles on what they learned directly from their friendship and fellowship with Jesus.
People can spend their entire lives studying the Bible, and still have more to learn. Have you ever been part of a study group reading over a passage of the Bible, and even though you all heard the same message you each got something different from it? It's because God is within the pages. God reveals to us what he wants us to know, when we're ready to understand it.
I encourage you to dust off your Bible, break it open and see what God has to say to you today.
