Every little girl, deep down, wants to be a princess. Not sure if little boys dream of being a prince, but for little girls it's a feeling of knowing you are special.
God is King of the Universe. That's a pretty hefty title. And when we become children of God, we are heirs to the throne. That makes each and every one of us royalty. Each of us is a prince or princess to the Kingdom of Heaven.
But, there's a reason for the saying, "heavy is the head that wears the crown". As royalty, we have obligations and duties to fulfil if we wish to fully participate in our inheritance. We are to conduct ourselves as becoming of the throne of God. Luckily, we have been given Jesus and the saints to emulate as an example of how to live. When we act and have faith as Jesus would, we are being good stewards of our kingdom. God is love, and when we do His good works in love, charity, compassion, then we are being faithful to our royal duties.
To wear the crown means to serve those whom you lead. And we are charged to lead others to Christ. Therefore, we are to serve those all around us in hopes that they too will inherit life in Heaven. This is what it means when Jesus says, "If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all, and the servant of all." Because to lead is to serve. And with great privilege comes great responsibility. We've all heard these words before, but how many of us ever thought it applied to us?
“We all have a vocation. We believe that God has placed us in this life to fill a special need that no one else can accomplish.” – St. Francis de Sales
Trust that by being called to become royalty, you have been given a royal duty by God. It is a mission you have been called, specifically, to accept. It may be to pray for others. It may be to help the sick or poor or imprisoned. It may be to teach others, or to be a leader. It may be to spread the Gospel. It also may be as simple as to be there for someone when they need you. By living in love, and giving our faith to Jesus, we can live and serve others as we are called to do.
So, dust off your crown and don your tiara. Hold your head high. For you too are a prince or princess of the greatest and everlasting Kingdom of God.
